Quality Technician

Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

As a Water Quality Technician, you will be responsible in assuring public health by carrying out planned and unplanned water sampling activity at customer properties to achieve the highest standard of water quality.

Excellent customer service is essential as you will be responding and helping resolve issues raised, not isolated to sampling activity by a customer or member of the public. Problem solving general issues and navigating through other departments within Severn Trent is key.  The role will involve detailed knowledge of water quality standards, sites and sampling points to identify issues which can then be escalated and used to manage any water quality problems using various techniques.

The role is accredited to ISO17025, which requires stringent quality control checks and accurate record keeping. Therefore, attention to detail and accuracy is a must.

You’ll be working in the Warwickshire/Birmingham region. You will start from home and then complete your scheduled route to then drop your samples off at our Campion Base.

If you’re passionate about clean water then you could make a difference to a lot of people’s lives, please read on.

As a Quality Technician you will be undertaking on-site analysis and sampling of drinking water and associated samples from water treatment works, service reservoirs, routine customer calls and other sampling points as required using aseptic techniques.

We will look for you to have an awareness of the environment and the impact on the representative nature of samples taken and how this may affect what the company is measured on (e.g. MZC/CRI).

We will look for you to complete on site assessments of our internal plumbing to identify filters/softeners and other factors which may affect the samples with an ability to make onsite decisions about next steps and you will be COSSH trained to prevent or reduce the exposure to substances that are hazardous to people health.

You will also do dynamic risk assessments and proactively put in place suitable controls to ensure that work can be conducted safely if needed. You will need to exercise judgment and balance on the tools you use for these activities and the risk & impact of activities to our customers, the general public, and road-traffic users and you will need to ensure compliance with our statutory, regulatory and company standards at all times.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.

We will need you to have a current UK driving licence as you will be travelling around and ideally you will have Driving experience using commercial vehicles.  We will look for you to have experience of working in the outside environment/weather/livestock and also have an ability to speak to our customers.  You will also need to be comfortable with some lone working even though you will be in a team.

This role will be working 37 hours a week working 7am – 3pm Monday and Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday are rest days, working Friday and Saturday 7am – 3pm, Sunday 7am – 2:30pm. On a Friday you’ll also cover Standby from 7am – 7am.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.

And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity; who help us do just that.

We do more, because we care.

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential.
