In your new role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our sewer network can meet the future challenges of safely taking waste water away from homes and businesses across our region. This will involve identifying, assessing and securing investment needed to ensure operational efficiency, environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance of the sewer network.

You’ll also inspire the direct and in-direct team to be creative, technically excellent and considerate of the system wide issues.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
DWMP analysis and option development:
- Understanding and developing options to meet all relevant statutory and compliance obligations (such as Environment Act requirements relating to storm overflow improvements, UWWTD and Water Industry Act requirements associated with our obligations to ensure effective drainage systems)
- Develop options to meet all requirements as set out in the DWMP framework – including completion of the data tables and narrative requirements to support the DWMP submission and annual updates.
- Set out costs and benefits of options and develop a rigorous challenge and assurance process including optimisation and developing adaptive plans.
- Create a review process which enables engagement by key internal and external stakeholders including EA, customers and relevant regional working groups.
Price review development:
- Responsibility for the development of business cases relating to investment needed to manage flows and performance of the wastewater network.
- Align waste water needs with wider needs as part of the company wide optimisation process.
- Ensure stakeholder and customer views are sought and considered when identifying the best value activities and pace of action.
Technical expertise:
- Developing asset class strategies (for example for gravity sewers and rising mains)
- Developing strategic and tactical investment plans for key long term challenges (for example managing infiltration)
- Responding to consultations and influencing policy direction on future legislation and wider policy such as on growth and planning policy.
Overall:
- Work closely to ensure alignment with other internal teams
- Lead engagement and manage relationship with key regulators and stakeholders
- Develop understanding of natural capital benefit and wider benefit assessments
- Grow and inspire talent within the team
- Align wastewater plans with other strategies (net zero, sustainability, climate change adaptation, accommodating population growth etc)
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You’ll also have the ability to interpret technical drainage options and communicate this to various parties at an appropriate level of details and work in a world of ambiguity, often to flexible and changing deadlines.
Additionally, you’ll have experience of building effective working relationships with a diverse range of people from senior management to front line and able to successfully deliver on multiple commitments under pressure, understanding and applying a relevant level of quality to each piece of work.
