Assistant Buyer

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

Have you started a career in procurement and are looking to move to a company who will support your continued development? Do you want to be a part of a procurement team who have achieved CIPS Procurement Excellence Standard award?

Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

As our new Assistant Buyer, you’ll support a team of Category Managers in the management of indirect purchasing categories across Severn Trent.

You’ll manage and negotiate on low value, low risk one off requirements and ad-hoc spends, typically ranging from £5,000 to £250,000 in value. You’ll offer support to Category Managers in the management of larger and more complex requirements, as well as EU tenders, all whilst providing great customer service and guidance to our stakeholders on our Procurement processes.

This is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to progress their career in Purchasing, or for someone who is looking to start on a brand-new career path - either way, we’d love to hear from you.

Your key accountabilities in helping us will be:

  • Researching supply markets and suppliers, assessing trends, opportunities, and risks
  • Partnering with stakeholders to lead quotation and supplier selection processes, ensuring the correct processes are followed
  • Support Category Managers with identifying and delivering cost saving opportunities
  • Develop and maintain spreadsheets, databases and use different Purchasing & Procurement systems where appropriate (SAP, Ariba, Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc)

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

As this is a development opportunity, we’re open minded on the type of background you’ll have, but we’d welcome applications from those who have worked in a commercial environment, or who have experience of negotiating.

What you will need is excellent communication skills, alongside the confidence to deliver, negotiate with and influence the decision making of stakeholders both within Severn Trent and externally with our partners and suppliers.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.

And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity; who help us do just that.

We do more, because we care.
