Construction Legal Counsel

We are looking for someone to join our dynamic and diverse team to provide legal services on construction and water industry matters. You will be working with our business to help deliver its strategic objectives and the vision of the General Counsel team, and as you are working in a dedicated legal team, you will benefit from the support of colleagues throughout so that we are able to drive and ensure we create an awesome place to work. This is an opportunity which doesn’t come up often - you will be working closely with our construction legal counsel and our commercial business teams to draft and negotiate high value construction contracts with our supply chain partners on Severn Trent’s £1Billion construction frameworks. In addition, you will assist with the business partnering for our Developer Services business unit who are responsible for water and waste connections made to our network.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Reporting into a Senior Legal Counsel, you will be Legal Counsel within the Severn Trent group legal team and you will be part of the team leading on non-contentious matters in relation in relation to Severn Trent’s construction contracts and will advise our business teams on construction contract management matters including contentious matters. We will look for you to assist in our contracts approval board to ensure that all awards of contract and negotiations meet Severn Trent’s requirements. You will also be part of our team to deliver legal support to our Developer Services team on a wider range of matters including advising on statutory and regulatory obligations.
You will assist in the development and implementation of strategic business plans and company performance targets which will ensure that our long-term business goals are protected. You will be constantly reviewing and considering any forthcoming changes in legal or regulatory requirements which could impact on us as a business and our framework, and you will proactively consider strategic and policy objectives of the company with a view to influencing key internal and external stakeholders.
What is equally important for you and us as a business is ensuring customers’ needs are at the heart of all advice and decisions which we make. This is a business leader role with regular reporting into senior stakeholders in our businesses, so we will look for your to be happy to challenge the leaders of our business.
