Due to an exciting new programme which is going to see us deliver for our customers a full mains renewal across our region over the next few years, we are now on a significant recruitment drive to scale our teams to deliver this fantastic work.

We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our team and be responsible for providing designs of technical solutions specifically for Severn Trent Water Mains Renewal programmes.  This includes technical input to projects from the feasibility stage all the way through to detailed design.

 

 

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

 

As our new Design Engineer, you’ll be responsible for conducting feasibility evaluations and assessments for Mains Renewal programmes within required timescales and agreed feasibility budgets, utilising both site visits and data analysis. Additionally, the role includes creating and developing appropriate designs that fit within the constraints of a scheme, providing optimal whole-life solutions for STW and our customers. The role also includes supporting and mentoring Assistant Design Engineers as needed and appropriate

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Engage with stakeholders to understand project scope and agree on design assessment and completion milestones with the senior design engineer. Conduct preconstruction assessments to identify unknown complexities.

 

  • Support projects from inception through to construction, ensuring adherence to design standards and best practices. Prepare designs that deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions, liaising with experts and following assurance processes.

 

  • Capture and assess operational risks, undertake proactive risk management, and maintain risk registers. Contribute to commissioning plans, review third-party designs, and ensure solutions meet design specifications.

 

  • Carry out CAD drawings, contribute to post-project reviews, and act as a mentor for assistant design engineers, ensuring continuous learning and best practices within the team.

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE 

 

For this role the right candidate will have proven experience of engineering design to assist with the development of innovative solutions with a focus on affordability & efficiency. You will also have experience implementing CDM regulations within the design process.

 

You will have experience working with systems such as CAD Autodesk or similar and experience within the water sector is desirable but not essential.

 

The right candidate will also have experience working with key stakeholders, influencing in order to deliver designs.

 

As travel is required, you’ll also have to hold a full U.K driving license.
