Design Manager

What do you get if you cross an award winning, innovative, water company and over 300 dedicated team members? Our Capital Design team of course!

Our ambitious and innovative projects (all 5000+ of them) help to combat the challenges of waste and water infrastructure, flooding and water quality. Be a part of something bringing benefits to our communities, health outcomes and environment.

It could be the biggest challenge of your career. If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you.

Within our Capital Design and Delivery department, we are looking for a Design Manager to join our Waste Treatment Design Team.

Reporting directly to the Design Business Leader, the Design Manager will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of our Capital Programme. The Design Manager will lead an integrated team of staff and consultants to develop engineering and process solutions. Accountable for a direct team, you will work alongside your team and the supply partners to develop a strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful design, delivery and handover of projects.

Ideally qualified in a technical engineering or design related discipline you will be an experienced engineer with a strong background in design, leading successful design teams in a highly regulated industry such as water, petrochem, pharmaceutical or power. You will have a strong background working with standards and codes of practice, with experience of providing designs and specifications for commercial negotiations. A strong team manager, with excellent planning and implementation skills, you will have experience of leading design projects to ensure designs are delivered to time, cost and quality. You will have extensive experience of implementing CDM regulations in the design process and strong understanding of risk management in construction and operational design. You will have experience working with a diverse team of different skillsets and building capacity and mentoring other engineers.

You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be a forward-thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment. You will be able to make educated judgments and decisions in the face of ambiguity, and have a good grasp of the bigger picture, seeking opportunities to contribute to the wider agenda.

The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity and a caring attitude we want to talk to you, too.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We want people who show up and get involve. Those who are ready to be part of something bigger and who want to make a difference because they care. Is that you?

We do more, because we care.

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential.
