EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as an Employee Support Specialist, where you’ll provide essential support to our newest employees as they embark on their journey with us. They may be starting their first jobs or returning to work after a break, and includes supporting young people transitioning out of care, ex-offenders, career returners, the long-term unemployed, NEETs, and disabled people.
In this newly created role, you’ll guide employees through their initial months with us, addressing concerns with empathy and discretion to ensure a smooth transition and a positive start. This includes coaching, mentoring, and signposting to professional services.
Serving as a designated Safeguarding Lead, you’ll also ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable adults and young people at Severn Trent, by following policies and responding to concerns.

Some of your key accountabilities will include:
- Providing individual support on workplace concerns, personal challenges, and career development.
- Developing and implementing personalised support plans in collaboration with internal and external partners, and monitoring progress.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns and incidents, ensuring appropriate actions are taken, working with external agencies, when required and offering support and guidance to employees and managers who may have safeguarding concerns. This does mean you’ll be on a on-call rota.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re looking for a candidate with extensive experience working with marginalised populations, and has a background in youth or social work, along with job coaching experience, having familiarity with local resources and services available to support employees, as well as training in safeguarding practices and policies. You’ll have a strong awareness of diverse backgrounds, and the challenges different individuals may face in the workplace.
You’ll be empathetic, patient, and genuinely have a desire to help others. Being able to assess situations and develop appropriate interventions, supported by excellent communication and interpersonal skills, should come naturally to you. You’ll have the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism and have strong organisational skills to manage multiple cases efficiently.
