Environmental Permitting Manager

Our Water Quality and Environment team have an opportunity for you to join as our new Environmental Permits Team Lead.

 

In this role, you will lead a high-profile and valued team of waste, installation, and discharge regulatory permitting technical experts. Your team will spearhead our efforts to protect the environment by ensuring that we have the necessary permits and consents to operate across our asset base, which includes water, waste, and bioresources.

 

Additionally, you will continue to develop a centre of excellence for regulatory compliance, transforming information into valuable insights and providing expert advice to support decision-making. 

 

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

 

  • Manage and develop the environmental permitting team and be fully accountable for their performance, contribution, development and well-being, health and safety.
  • Develop and maintain effective and influential relationships (internal and external) and to a senior level.
  • Develop and maintain permitting processes to ensure delivery of our permitting plan
  • Contribute your technical knowledge and stakeholder management experience to risk-based decision making by the team and the wider business.
  • Responsible for permitting budget. You will also ensure that invoices received to pay for Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy permitting activities are accurate in terms of legal and financial information, and manage payments to the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

 

In order to succeed in this role, you should possess a degree or equivalent in a business or scientific discipline, along with a minimum of 3-5 years of business experience, including operational context.

 

Experience with our regulatory framework, particularly in specialist areas of flow and environmental permitting, is essential. Additionally, a proven understanding of financial management of budgets is required.

 

You should also have experience in applying, providing, and presenting key specialist knowledge to external stakeholders and regulatory bodies. Effective communication skills at all levels, both internally and externally, are crucial. Demonstrated experience in leadership, organizational skills, and effective time and people management, with at least 2 years of leadership experience, is also necessary.
