Severn Trent Water are recruiting for a Maintenance & Reliability Engineer to join our fast-paced & forward-thinking Water Treatment department.
The Maintenance & Reliability Engineer will be responsible for owning the asset maintenance program for a selected Water Treatment Business Area. This will cover approximately 7-9 teams and multiple technology types within the Water Treatment process. The maintenance scope will encompass all maintenance activities, including skilled internal EM&I resources and supply chain activities.
You will collaborate with the Asset Care teams and operations to influence how we evaluate asset performance, conduct condition monitoring, and manage risk. The goal is to establish an operation and maintenance plan that enables optimum performance for all asset types. This involves optimizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), minimizing downtime, reducing operating costs, and ensuring the production of high-quality products with minimal waste. This approach should closely align with Severn Trent Water’s existing asset maintenance practices.
This role will also require you to guide and influence our internal and external stakeholders in relation to fluoride dosing. Providing excellent operational insight and understanding to ensure were continually improving our fluoride approach. You’ll be responsible for operational fluoride failure modes, deep dives & reporting liaison.
Additionally, the role holder will play a significant role in defining the types of work that teams typically handle “in-house.” By working closely with the Asset Care O&M team, they will refine the care approach and actively engage frontline maintainers in this process.
Your responsibilities include establishing and managing a robust Reliability framework. This requires you to be a qualified Reliability Engineer (Mobius level 2).
It is essential that all applicants have a minimum of a technical qualification in either electrical, mechanical or instrumentation engineering to a BTEC / NVQ level 3.
The successful candidate will be expected to complete ‘Asset Maintenance Best Practice’ C&G and achieve Mobius level 2 (CBM).
The role is companywide so any applicant should hold a UK driving licence and be free to drive for company business.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
The role holder will be expected to have:
- Experience in a water operational environment,
- Experience of delivering a high performing maintenance approach to operational activities,
- Demonstrable stakeholder management experience. Ability to influence across all levels of the business.
- Reliability Maintenance understanding (desired)
- Commercial Awareness – able to make decisions in a way that influence and drive profitability whilst minimising risk.
- Drive to deliver – able to work independently and deliver programmes to time and budget. Able to overcome challenges and bring others on the journey.
- Appreciation of how to use key metrics to performance manage.
- Effective Communicator – especially able to use the right level of information for an audience and deliver expert support to the wider organisation.
- Experience regarding water fluoridation
It will be key for the successful candidate to engage with local O&M teams and have a core understanding and background in a maintenance discipline (Mechanical, Electrical or ICA).
Effective leadership and relationship management skills are essential for smooth delivery of our maintenance program across all levels of the business. As a Technical Expert, you’ll support local O&M teams in safely introducing new processes and activities. This includes building confidence, identifying training needs, and ensuring teams have the necessary tools and equipment for efficient in-house work.
Furthermore, the role involves reviewing existing external maintenance contracts for water treatment to ensure we receive the highest value for money. Collaboration with commercial teams and framework partners is crucial. The role holder’s attention to detail regarding plant and machinery inconsistencies will be paramount, especially during the commissioning of new equipment through capital commercial routes. Knowledge of the wider water treatment process will inform decisions related to asset criticality, considering financial impact, process implications, and team engagement.
Ultimately, the successful candidate will foster strong working relationships with maintainers, supporting them in technical matters and skill enhancement. This proactive and reactive approach aims to promote better maintenance practices.
