Payroll Specialist

Our people are what makes Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work. We’re a team of over 7,000 people with a purpose to deliver one of life’s essentials. We do it all while thriving in our unique culture and making a lasting difference to our planet, society, and careers.

Collectively we provide a critical national infrastructure to millions of customers in our region, so the only question is… why wouldn't you want to be part of that?

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We have an opportunity for you to join our Human Resources team as our new Payroll Specialist.

In this role, you’ll be part of a small in-house payroll team, working alongside our outsourced third-party provider to deliver accurate and timely payroll. You’ll support the delivery of payroll across Severn Trent, ensuring we are compliant with service levels, legislation, and internal controls.

Payroll is one of our most important functions and pivotal to keeping our employees happy and motivated. Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

  • Delivering payroll activities in line with agreed schedules, fully reconciled with 100% accuracy
  • Ensuring that financial controls are adhered to
  • Supporting legislative and process changes when required
  • Managing exceptions to ensure no downturn in service and controls
  • Supporting the HR team and business with payroll queries, acting as a Subject Matter Expert in this domain
  • Thinking strategically to drive continuous improvements to the payroll practices

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

This position sits in our busy and dynamic HR Operations team and will provide numerous challenges, so therefore requires someone with a can-do attitude, superb organisation skills, stringent attention to detail, respect for confidentiality and a desire to take ownership and make a positive impact.

You’ll join the team with technical payroll experience, including knowledge of SMP, SSP, SPP, automatic pensions enrolment, P11Ds and tax rules. In addition, we’d expect you to have experience of working within a demanding, fast paced payroll team with expertise in working with processes that require analysis and calculation controls.

It would be desirable if you have experience of SAP and/or iTrent, but you must be comfortable working with payroll systems.

The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity, and a caring attitude we want to talk to you too.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We want people who show up and get involve. Those who are ready to be part of something bigger and who want to make a difference because they care.

Is that you?
