We have a brilliant opportunity to join our Capital and Commercial Services directorate as a Principal Engineer in our Waste Treatment Technical Team.
Reporting directly to the Waste Treatment Technical Lead our Principal Engineers play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of our Capital Programme. They work alongside our Design Manager managers to provide the technical oversight and leadership to an integrated team of staff and consultants developing engineering and process solutions. You will work alongside your team and the supply chain partners to develop a strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful design, delivery and handover of projects.
You will be a Chartered Engineer with the highest of standards in maintaining your discipline expertise and with a wide understanding of Waste Treatment processes, technologies and solutions. You will have extensive experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and will understand the responsibility of providing overarching oversight across the varied aspects of engineering design.

Your key accountabilities in helping us will be:
- To stand as the technical authority and so lead on all technical aspects of optioneering and design for a variety of waste treatment projects, driving innovative, efficient, environment friendly, safe to build and operate with least whole life cost solutions.
- To provide technical support to the Waste Treatment Core Design Team and play a key role in developing the technical capability of team members through coaching, mentoring and supporting the Design Managers and Business Leads to identify development opportunities for individual designers.
- To supervise the creation of designs and specifications for waste water treatment projects which include consideration of health & safety; environment; buildability; customer impact; third party constraints/permissions/approvals; commissioning; operation and maintenance; appropriate legislation and regulations.
- Identify and review deviations from Severn Trent’s standards and support the Project Management Team in taking these deviations to the relevant standards owners or Standards Approval Board for approval.
- Ensure Severn Trent’s H&S standards are adhered to in relation to the design, in particular standards relating to functional safety, HazOp, HazCon, DSEAR and the CDM Regs.
- Communicate lessons learned from the project to the wider business and develop younger and less experienced engineers working on the programme of work, driving innovation and develop new approaches and solutions
- Establish network of internal and external stakeholders across your discipline to capture learnings, understand innovation and best practice and build into the plans for Capital Design technical standards.
