We are looking for someone to join our dynamic and diverse team as a senior legal counsel with performance management responsibilities for a talented group of lawyers and data protection officer. You will be working with our business to help deliver its strategic objectives and the vision of the General Counsel team, and as you are working in Severn Trent group legal team, you will benefit from the support of colleagues throughout so that we are able to drive and ensure we create an awesome place to work. This is a senior role which doesn’t come up often and you be a member of the senior team reporting into the Head of Legal for Severn Trent group.

As a Senior Legal Counsel within the Severn Trent group legal team, you will be a first-rate lawyer in your own discipline, working across the business to provide business focussed legal advice. You will also be responsible for managing and leading a diverse and talented team of four people who partner with our business teams and who work across several different disciplines of law including Commercial and IP, Construction, Disputes, Employment, and Data Protection. You will also manage our Data Protection Officer who is responsible for data protection compliance right across the Severn Trent group. We will look for you to be an inspiring leader and manager with a clear focus to support and develop the team.

 

You will develop and implement strategic business plans and company performance targets which will ensure that our long-term business goals are protected. You will be constantly reviewing and considering any forthcoming changes in legal or regulatory requirements which could impact on us as a business and our framework, and you will proactively consider strategic and policy objectives of the company with a view to influencing key internal and external stakeholders.

 

What is equally important for you and us as a business is ensuring customers’ needs are at the heart of all advice and decisions which we make. This is a business leader role with regular reporting into senior stakeholders in our businesses, so we will look for your to be happy to challenge the leaders of our business.

If you have demonstrable experience within construction or commercial law and gained this either from a law firm or in house PQE and can demonstrate your leadership & mentoring skills, we’d love to hear from you.
