Do you hold the knowledge and experience to deal with complex IT issues across a wide range of applications and IT infrastructure? 

 

We’re looking for an experienced IT professional to join our Technology team as a Third Line Engineer.

 

In this role, you’ll play a pivotal role in managing and maintaining the Severn Trent Operating Services (OSUK) software and systems, working alongside a small team of Technology Engineers.  

 

It’s an exciting opportunity for someone to take ownership of modernising OSUK’s Microsoft technologies and moving the current on-premises infrastructure to the cloud. Therefore, experience of project management is desirable along with proven ability to work to deadlines.  

 

You’ll take pride in delivering the very best end user computing solutions and will also proactively support Severn Trent Services with a maintenance of firewalls, servers, network, and their journey to cloud.

Your key accountabilities will include:

 

  • Create an infrastructure / deployment strategy that supports the platform roadmap and aligns with the overall Severn Trent Services technology strategy 
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of a scalable, resilient & secure CI/CD environment and remove the dependency on the on-premises systems
  • Responsible for the management, maintenance and architecture of storage, virtualised environment, servers, network devices, and productivity tools 
  • Support the diagnosis and resolution of complex technical issues escalated via 1st or 2nd line support 
  • Monitor the performance of all systems and cloud hosted services and carry out preventative maintenance as required
  • Manage highly critical situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems and arrange for external technical support where problems cannot be resolved

As a Third Line Engineer, you’ll possess the flexibility needed to work in a demanding and changing environment, and be able to remain calm and focused in highly pressurised situations.  

 

You’ll have robust stakeholder management skills, balanced with diplomacy and tact, that will enable you to work strategically and collaboratively across departments and build lasting relationships with the Severn Trent Services teams.  

 

To be successful, it’s desired that you’ll have competence, knowledge, and experience of working within the following systems, software, platforms, and ways of working:

 

  • Windows Servers 2013-2019 /Windows 10 
  • Office 365 
  • Cloud, SQL Server, Azure / AWS, PKI, SCCM, SCOM, INTUNE 
  • Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching CCNA level, VPN's, VLAN, ACL's, MPLS/BGP
  • Checkpoint Firewalls 
  • Security and Patch knowledge - Pen Testing and remediation, Best Practices in security for whole estate, CVE review & Management 
  • Configuration, management and troubleshooting of Veeam Infrastructure 
  • ITIL best practice and product lifecycles   
  • Design, implementation, and operation of critical IT infrastructure services in an enterprise environment
  • Active Directory Management
