The Hire Service Manager is a fundamental role to help achieve these strategic outcomes and has two distinct areas to oversee and drive forwards but in short it’s primarily focussed on the control of our hire spend, looking for ways to reduce, challenging long term hire and working with procurement to ensure we have commercially favourable contracts.  Let’s tell you more about these 2 areas in more detail.

 

Firstly, the operational performance of the Hire service desk, being responsible for the smooth of the Hire service desk and all Hire administration.  It’s vital that these activities are completed within the service levels set but also that you drive continuous improvement within the team to better delivery dates.  Deliver business procedures based on customer offers to ensure operating models are designed based on their wants and needs.  You’ll possess great stakeholder management skills across a range of levels and ensure the delivery meets the need of our business. 

 

You’ll seek ways to reduce operational expenditure of hire equipment usage and longevity of use, through the use of departmental dashboards, highlight areas of increased expenditure with those business areas and work together to find the most commercially and operationally favourable solution.

Secondly, you’ll be accountable for suppliers’ performance, making sure they deliver against their contractual SLA and ultimately allow us to deliver an outstanding service to the business.  You’ll help shape new tender requirements with our procurement colleagues that can ultimately drive down costs; improve operational performance; and reduce carbon emissions.

 

We’re thrilled to be able to offer this brand new role on a permanent basis based out of our Raynesway site in Derby.  We’re looking for a forward thinking, proactive and positive leader who has experience in managing a large, business critical, fast paced operation.

Your key accountabilities in helping us on our journey will be:  

 

You’ll lead a team accountable for the hire service desk and the general admin within the supply chain operations department and drive performance in a fast-paced environment where time is critical.  You’ll possess great stakeholder management skills across a range of levels and make sure the delivery meets the need of our business.

 

We’re looking for you to identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities within this operation to smarten processes and reduce transactional activities and make sure they are sustained while seeking ways to reduce operational expenditure of hire equipment usage and longevity of use.  It will be expected that you’ll hit tough financial savings targets from the set.

 

Instigate and drive root cause analysis related to poor performance metrics and implement improvement change programs.  Drive supplier performance through chairing monthly performance meeting, challenge when they are not on track.  Help shape new tender requirements and after award, continue working closely to improve supplier performance.

 

Provide regular updates to the operations lead, communicating progress against workstreams and risks in an effective manner and lead monthly performance reviews to senior management.

 

Seek opportunities to insource more activity within the Hire team and promote a safety culture and ensure all measures are in place to deliver our zero LTI’s company target.

You’ll come with experience of delivering tactical and strategic changes within a complex supply chain environment and have the ability to create a future-back strategic plan to deliver the departments goals.  You’ll be comfortable to create business cases for senior manager sign off and have a proven track record of delivery and recognised as a leader. It would be great to see application of lean or continuous improvement techniques to drive or turn around performance.  You’ll be an expert communicator with a proven track record of influencing people at all levels of the organisation.
