Standards & Assurance Manager

We have an excellent new opportunity to become a Standards & Assurance Manager within Water Treatment on a 6 month secondment. The role will be reporting into Sam Walter. The purpose of the role is to improve the operational compliance against regulatory standards within the Water Treatment Surface Water department. You will work with Team Managers to create and document high quality technical operating standards, and act as the technical expert in relation to regulatory compliance. Additionally, you will be responsible for the standards and compliance improvement program within your region, influencing operational teams and holding management to account for compliance against standards, procedures and systems of work. Then read on EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW Your key accountabilities will be: Deliver a standardised, systematic approach to the management of regulatory standards, procedures, and processes within the region. Document procedures, processes, and systems of work to a high quality, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and legislation, and ensure that they remain controlled correctly and within date. Work closely with the Team Managers to ensure teams are competent and compliant with relevant procedures, processes, and systems of work. Support the compliance improvement program across Water Treatment to reduce regulatory (DWI/EA/NRW) and operational (ODI) failures and improved safety compliance (HSE). Key activities within scope include EA abstraction and discharge, DWI codified procedures, high risk safety standards and key regulatory operational task compliance. Report on compliance performance within regional comm cells and performance meetings. Escalate significant areas of underperformance to the Business Lead. Take a lead role in the development and prioritisation of the standards improvement plan within the region, collaborating with other regions to ensure a consistent and standardised approach. Identify best practice and liaise with other S&A Managers to build lessons learnt and best practice into standards, procedures, and processes to continuously improve and reduce failure rates. Work with the Team Manager to ensure standards compliance remains on target, celebrate successes and agree recovery plans where adherence is off track. Complete independent assurance checks within region against specific regulatory and operational standards to ensure long term regulatory compliance. Improve the overall technical understanding of relevant compliance standards, licenses and permit legislation within the region. Own and deliver all aspects of the environmental compliance improvement project for the region promoting, arranging funding and contractors to deliver by January 2025. Complete independent assurance checks within region against specific regulatory and operational standards to ensure long term regulatory compliance. WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE It would be advantageous to have an understanding of appropriate compliance legislation, including EA/NRW abstraction and discharge licenses, DWI codified procedures and legislation, safety standards and regulation, plus critical operational compliance tasks. Extensive technical knowledge within Water Treatment Operations is required. Having worked within a management system framework, and experience driving performance improvement would be desirable. Travelling to operational sites will be essential for this role and therefore a full UK driving license will be required. WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
