Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

Which is why we are excited to announce a new opportunity to join our team as a Senior Quality Technician. You’ll be responsible for safely providing sampling and on-site assessments, which deliver regulatory commitments to the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

You’ll be responsible for carrying out planned and unplanned water sampling activity at customer properties to achieve the highest standard of water quality. You’ll be required to respond in the event of a water quality incident, by analysing key information on the quality of water and report in the correct way to drive the correct response.

You'll also support the Team Leader and take on management duties when the Team Leader is not available.

The key accountabilities of this role will include:

  • Undertaking on-site analysis and sampling of drinking water and associated samples from water treatment works, service reservoirs, routine customer calls and other sampling points as required using aseptic techniques.

  • Liaising directly with customers to agree appointment times to resolve water quality issues, keeping the customer informed of any changes.
  • Stakeholder management with other teams within the company, to support delivery of other types of samples including hydrants, dip sampling.

  • Having awareness of the environment and the impact on the representative nature of samples taken and how this may affect key company measures.

  • Having an understanding of treatment and distribution processes which allow you to identify and understand any atypical results or scenarios and act swiftly to ensure the correct action is taken.

  • Availability to work on a shift pattern with standby to cover 24/7 operations, 365 days a year. This includes routine weekend and evening working.

  • Carrying out root cause analysis of sample failures, input findings into investigation, share learnings and own actions.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.

Apart from being a great fit for the team you’ll ideally have a UK Driving Licence and hold experience driving commercial vehicles. You’ll have experience of lone working and working within a customer facing role. You’ll demonstrate a high level understanding of the principles and practice of analytical quality control and have technical knowledge and experience of either Chemistry or Microbiology.

You’ll have an analytical mindset and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally. You’ll have good IT skills and in-depth knowledge of sampling and onsite testing techniques.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.

And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity, who help us do just that.

We do more, because we care.

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the community in which we live.  Here’s some of our favourites:
