Within our Capital Design Department, we are looking for an Assistant Design Engineer to join our Water Treatment Design team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

 

Reporting to the Design Manager, the Mechanical Assistant Design Engineer will provide design and oversight of the technical solutions for water treatment schemes for the Water Treatment Design Team.

To succeed in this role, you will have Water sector experience (or similar), and proven experience of data collection and production of drawings and sketches for construction projects. You will have experience implementing CDM regulations in design process and liaising with third-party suppliers to obtain information.

 

Initially you will support the Design and Senior Design Engineers to deliver projects to programme, within budget, to the correct quality standards.

 

To do this role you will need to:

  • Provide design of technical solutions for water treatment facilities. This will encompass technical inputs to projects from feasibility, through to outline design, detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Undertake feasibility evaluation/assessment for projects within the required timescales and within agreed feasibility budgets through both site visits and analysis of data.
  • Create mechanical designs & specifications for water disinfection, pumping systems and other mechanical components, including consideration of health & safety / materials handling / rotating machinery / hydraulics / environment / buildability / commissioning / operations and maintenance / HazOps / appropriate legislation & regulations / third party coordination.
  • Understand activities associated with the role as Principal Designer - CDM regulations.

 

 Key accountabilities for this role are:

  • Contributor to given design tasks and production of key deliverables.
  • Prepare information to deliver to stakeholders.
  • Collect and analyse data to define the problem.
  • Engage with multiple stakeholders (internal / external) to understand the root cause of the business problems.
  • Contribute to the validation of third-party designs.
  • Understand and review potential delivery and operational risks e.g. Health & Safety, environmental, commissioning.
  • Contribute to ensure the solution is delivered and commissioned to the agreed/contracted design specification.

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

 

Chartered Mechanical engineer with a full UK driving license, you will have:

  • Good communication, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong personal discipline, able to operate within boundaries and parameters (design standards, H&S regulations etc.).
  • Clear thinking and able to make educated judgements and decisions in the face of ambiguity.
  • A strong drive to deliver.
  • Experience of using design solutions such as CAD.
