Principal Hydrogeologist

Here at Severn Trent, we are on a very exciting journey with our Borehole programme, we are leading the industry with our inhouse design end to end capability and our delivery procurement direct to drillers.

 

Within our Capital Design and Delivery department, we are looking for a Principal Hydrogeologist Engineer to join our CCS Water treatment Hydrogeologist team.

 

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

 

Reporting to the Team Leader of the CCS hydrogeologist team, the Principal Hydrogeologist will provide and deliver hydrogeological expertise to support the STW AMP8 programme and will deliver quality designs that are efficient, innovative, to agreed programme milestones and compliant with all relevant STW company strategies, policies, procedures and standards.

 

Your main duties will include but not limited to:

    • Liaison with design & build partners, specialist contractors and industry stakeholders.
    • Undertake and review borehole condition and performance assessments.
    • Production and review of design specifications for casing, slotted and open-hole sections.
    • Design and review of test pumping, CCTV and Geophysical surveys.
    • On-site supervision of contractors during the drilling, rehabilitation and testing of groundwater sources.
    • Ensure high levels of health and safety are maintained during design and construction phase.
    • Provide technical support to borehole survey programme to ensure timely delivery of surveys and hydraulic performance testing.
    • Assist in the development of solutions with appointed consultants or contractors (where appropriate).  
    • Liaise with other Hydrogeologists, Operations, Licensing, Public Health & Standards, Process, or other relevant STW stakeholders during the design and construction phases

On a day-to-day basis, you will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure requirements are clearly understood and that and solutions meet the business objectives and are within approved budgets. You will drive H&S, undertake risk management, challenge designs and ensure that appropriate support is provided to the programme team so that the solution is delivered efficiently on time and in line with specifications.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

 

Ideally qualified with Master’s Degree in Hydrogeology (or similar) with significant experience in hydrogeological methods and techniques, at least 10 years’ experience working in hydrogeology; and holding chartered status of an appropriate professional body (e.g. Geological Society, CIWEM, ICE, etc..).

 

We will expect you have a good level of knowledge and understanding of:

    • Business Plan activities and requirements
    • borehole construction and remediation techniques
    • groundwater asset management
    • groundwater and water resource evaluation
    • legislation influencing water resources
    • Deployable Output assessments
    • environmental impact legislation and analysis
    • management of H&S and environment
    • groundwater quality issues, assessment and remediation techniques
    • water quality impacts, analysis, regulations and legislation
    • regulatory engagement and management (Ofwat, EA, DWI, etc..); and
    • multi-faceted project management

 

You will have experience working with a diverse team of different skillsets and building capacity and mentoring other engineers. Ideally you will have experience of implementing CDM regulations in the design process and strong understanding of risk management in construction and operational design.

 

You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be a forward-thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment. You will be able to make educated judgments and decisions in the face of ambiguity, and have a good grasp of the bigger picture, seeking opportunities to contribute to the wider agenda.
