Are you an innovative leader with a passion for strategic planning and environmental management? We are seeking a dynamic and experienced manager to establish and lead a new team focused on place-based planning and delivery across our region. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of water management and contribute to groundbreaking environmental projects.

The position is an initial 12-month temporary role working in the Strategic Asset Planning group based in Coventry

If you’re curious about how we can do more for our customers and the environment we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are seeking an energetic leader to establish and lead a new team of specialists tasked with developing a company-wide approach to place-based planning and delivery.

The successful candidate’s team will be responsible evaluating the benefits of place-based planning by developing new tools and processes and applying them in two catchments where we plan to spend over £500m in AMP8 on a range of water resource and river quality issues

You will also be leading our engagement with existing externally funded catchment-thinking projects in the Warwickshire Avon and Nottinghamshire Idle and Torne catchments.

The key accountabilities for the role are:

  • Review, challenge, and advocate the evidence supporting the case for place-based planning across the business. This involves critically evaluating current practices, identifying gaps, and promoting the benefits of place-based planning to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Oversee the development of new spatial planning tools and processes to integrate place-based planning in our long-term statutory plans, and our AMP 8 business plan.

  • Broker cross sub-service, place-based delivery plans for two demonstrator catchments by coordinating efforts across different service areas and facilitating collaboration to achieve programme objectives.

  • Deliver a balanced scorecard assessment of place-based versus business-as-usual (BAU) planning and delivery by developing metrics and analysing results to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of place-based planning.

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction in response to government policy and regulatory advice on catchment-thinking. This includes interpreting policy changes and assessing their impact on the organisation.

  • Lead and coordinate our engagement with the Nature for Water Warwickshire Avon project and the Unlocking Private Finance in Nature Innovate UK project.

Key experience you will need to succeed;

  • Show experience of leading teams to deliver fast-paced, complex projects.

  • Have experience of working with latest ideas and transforming them into persuasive mandates for change.

  • Demonstrate a track record of developing highly effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Possess broad knowledge of asset management activities across traditional planning functions. This knowledge is crucial for integrating place-based planning with existing asset management practices and ensuring a holistic approach.

  • Awareness of place-based planning tools and processes is desirable. This knowledge will help in effectively implementing and advocating for place-based planning within the organisation.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

The right skills and experience are important but if you have the right character, positivity, and a curious nature we want to talk to you too.

Networking is a key part of the role as you will need to grasp the needs of multiple stakeholders and effectively manage their expectations.

Resilience is a must, as you will need to persevere through challenges and drive progress even when results are not immediate.
