Telemetry Control Technician 24/7(Water)

Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

We are excited to announce a new opportunity to join our team as a Water Telemetry Control Technician.

  • We will provide role specific training.
  • You will provide excellent numerical & written capabilities

In this exciting role, you’ll be given the opportunity to build a career in an area focused on keeping our customers supplied with our Wonderful Water. We have an excellent progression process within our department which rewards you as your skills & experience grow.

We’ll give you all the training, guidance and support you need.  All we ask from you is that you’re a team player, you’re driven and tenacious, you think on your feet, and you enjoy problem solving.

You will be joining a supportive and high performing team within our Operational Control Centre.  You will be at the centre of our business, communicating with numerous other teams running our Water Treatment, Supply and Distribution Operations.

It will be your job to ensure that our Wonderful Water is available to supply our customers day and night.  You will respond to asset failures & plan ahead to move water around our network of pipes in the most efficient way. You will be the main person to talk to our operational teams, to ensure that if something is broken, they can fix it!

Are you a great communicator who wants to get stuff done and keen to learn?

Well, if you are, read on.

In this role you will be responsible for monitoring and responding to telemetry alarms which let us know when there is a problem with part of our Water Supply & Distribution System. You will use your fantastic analytical skills to investigate the problem and if needed send someone out to fix it.

You will also work proactively to ensure that our treated water storage reservoirs are kept operating at their optimum levels which may mean increasing or decreasing the amount of water going into them.

You must be able to remain calm when working under pressure as you will be processing complex information and problems, sometimes with very tight time constraints.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right qualifications but we value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight.

This role will be working a shift pattern on a 7-week rotation. These shifts will average 37 hours a week. We are a 24/7 department which means our teams work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.

And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity, who help us do just that.

As a minimum we require you to have English & Maths GCSE Level 5 or above.

This would be a great opportunity for a graduate looking for a career with a great Company.

We do more, because we care.

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the community in which we live.  Here’s some of our favourites:

  • Salary paying circa £35,000 which includes shift allowance and weekend working

  • 33 days holiday,  this includes 8 Bank holidays, you will also get paid an additional single time payment for any Bank Holidays you work.  (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)

  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250 per annum based on company performance)

  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)

  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
